Exploring Advaita, Consciousness and the Nature of Reality

Quotes and Poems

Previous quote
  • "There is no need for you to become the Unborn. The true Unborn has nothing to do with fundamental principles, and it is beyond becoming or attaining. It is simply being as you are.", The Unborn: The Life and Teaching of Zen Master Bankei
  • "If you want to know something, go elsewhere. If you want to un-know everything, then sit and listen.", Adyashanti
  • "Just realise you are dreaming a dream you call the world and stop looking for ways out. The dream is not your problem. Your problem is that you like one part of your dream and not another. Love all or none of it and stop complaining. When you have seen the dream as a dream, you have done all that needs to be done", Nisargadatta
  • "Don't wait for it to happen, don't want it to happen, just let it happen", Sean Connery as Jim Malone in "The Untouchables"
  • "You are already that which you seek", Ramana Maharshi
  • "There is no such thing as Enlightenment or Liberation, there is only ever this: what is presently happening. Liberation and Enlightenment may arise in this, but they are only ever stories in the great play of life and have no deeper reality than that. Nothing special. Totally ordinary. And yet, completely and utterly extraordinary...", Jeff Foster

  • "When the sun shines through crimson glass there appears to be a crimson sun, and when the sun shines through emerald glass there appears to be an emerald sun, yet is there but one sun which is neither crimson nor emerald. And so it is with the one SELF shining through a myriad individual selves, which are as but the coloured windows through which the sun of the SELF doth shine", The Boy Who Saw True by Cyril Scott
  • "There is no need for you to become the unborn. The true unborn has nothing to do with fundamental principles, and it's beyond becoming or attaining. It's simply being as you are.", The Life and Teaching of Zen Master Bankei

  • Untitled

The Tao gave birth to one.
    One gave birth to two.
    Two gave birth to three.
And three begat the 10,000 things.
    The 10,000 things carry yin and embrace yang;
    they achieve harmony
    by combining these forces.

by Lao Tzu, Tao Teh Ching

  • Being

No trace of Truth in a human face
Only the Love that fills all space

    No "me" over here
    No "you" over there
No person who can "be aware"
    Liberation is here right now
No-one can possibly teach you how

To the restless mind this will never be clear
It's beyond the reach of mortal ear
Being is found in the still, quiet space
Bearing witness of itself in every place
Yet there's nowhere that it cannot be found
It's both the silence and the sound.

It has many names, like "God" or "Being"
Talked about in "glimpses" and "seeing"
But all the while there's no-thing to "see"
It's simply found where there's no-one to BE

  • Tasteless

There is no word with which to name
This that here is the Heart of all.
There are no words whose use can say
The way it is, for short they fall
When trying to express this tasteless taste,
This nothing that is always known
Yet never shared, though all partake,
In every beat and pulse it's shown
    The wonder of this universe
    Pales in significance before
The One, where comes this play of Light,
To manifest the less to more.
    Boundless, free it does unfold
    Expressing endlessly anew
It sees and hears and knows itself
In duality as me and you.
    In Love's illusion we appear
As two and seek to join again,
To play this game of hide and seek,
And watch the moment wax and wane.
This miracle of Life is now
And ever now, though time appears,
'Tis but a flowing of the stillness
Briefly clothed in days and years.
For this that is the Truth of us
Is never other than our Self,
    Stripped bare of ideology
    "I" stand-alone, I am this wealth
Which brings into the play of time
    All that can be experienced
As you and I, the other, there
    This canvas of insignificance.
